A local bishop hopes the newly elected Pope will visit Ireland in the future.
Robert Francis Prevost will now lead the pontificate under the name of Pope Leo XIV.
The previous pontiff, Pope Francis' papacy was marked by his visit to Knock in 2018, and there are hopes the new Pope will follow in his footsteps with a trip to Ireland.
He holds both U.S. and Peruvian citizenship, and is the first pope from the United States.
