Activation of new CCTV will 'combat crime' in Monaghan Town. Issues around drug use and other criminal related offences, recently discussed between members of the Monaghan Municipal District and An Garda Síochána.
Garda Superintendent Pat O'Connell, along with other senior members of Cavan/Monaghan Gardai, attended the meeting.
Cllr Sean Conlon described the meeting as "constructive". Indeed, he praised the imminent activation of Monaghan Town's CCTV system.
Furthermore, Cllr Conlon believes the move "should have been done years ago". A meeting in relation to the new CCTV scheme was first held in back in 2017.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon said the delay goes "beyond the control of local Gardai" and "unfortunately" was in the hands of the Department of Justice who provided "delay after delay." Despite this, Cllr Conlon believes the new CCTV system will be a "fantastic ally" when it comes to helping combating drug related offences in Monaghan Town.
Jodie Curran spoke with the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan MD, Cllr Sean Conlon about the recent meeting:
