Over 10,500 applications for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme has been made locally following Storm Eowyn.
Just over 6,900 applications were made in Cavan and over 3,650 applications were made in Monaghan. Nationally over 93,000 applications were received by the government in response to the historic storm that occurred in January.
In new figures provided by the Department of Social Protection to 7LÁ that aired on TG4 last night, the applications were in respect of 75,733 people totalling almost €12.8 million. The scheme was opened after extensive damage was caused by Storm Éowyn in January of this year.
County Galway had the highest amount of applications with 30,592, County Mayo had the second highest with 17,303, and County Roscommon had the third highest with 8,702 applications.
Currently there are 22,149 applicants, whose claims have been decided and have not been awarded a payment in respect of Storm Éowyn.
