132 council owned properties in Cavan and Monaghan are currently vacant.

The Sunday Independent reports that 4,000 local authority homes across the country are currently empty.

Monaghan has one of the lowest vacancy rates, with just 19.

Leitrim has the lowest at 16.

Meanwhile there are 113 vacant homes in Cavan.

The report has says 228 council homes in Cavan and Monaghan are currently leased out.
