15 additional primary schools in Cavan and nine in Monaghan are to start receiving free hot school meals. Minister of Social Protection, Dara Calleary, made the announcement this morning.
Some of the national schools in Cavan are two in Drung, three in Kingscourt, Corliss National School, Scoil Bhríde in Killeshanadra and Kildallon National School. In County Monaghan, some gaelscoileanna and a bunscoil are among those listed for the school meals.
Welcoming the news for Cavan and Monaghan Brendan Smith TD paid particular attention to the Minister's pledge to conduct a nutritional review into the meals provided with the aim to deliver healthier options with less sugar, salt and saturated fats (listen below):
