231 local community groups receive over €300,000 in funding

Funding of €306,792 has been allocated for local community groups across the Northern Sound region.

Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise Niamh Smyth has welcomed the news today that 135 groups in Monaghan and 96 community groups in Cavan will receive over €300,000 to assist them in their ongoing work in rural areas.

€149,865 has been awarded to 135 community groups in Monaghan while €155,957 has been awarded to 96 community groups in Co Cavan. Today's announcement by Minister Dara Calleary has seen area Arva Development Association receive €4,500. Ballyjamesduff Community Council will also receive €4,750. Belturbet and District Men's Shed Belturbet are set to be allocated €4,500.00. Meanwhile Killeshandra Community Council will get €4,750."

Elsewhere in Co Monaghan some of the today's allocations include Ballinode Community Projects who are set to receive €5,290.00. Castleblayney Faughs in Castleblayney have been awarded €5,000.00 and Lisdoonan Recreation and Development Association have been allocated €6,290.00. Oram GFC is also set to receive €7,000 under this programme while the Peace Link in Clones will get €5290.

Speaking to Northern Sound in relation to the funding announcement, Minister Niamh Smyth said; "This Local Enhancement Scheme allocation will also see key facilities supporting so many families receive support by way of funding. It has been announced today that Teach Oscail Family Resource Centre in Cavan will receive €4,500.00 and Tullacmongan Resource Centre Cavan receive €4,750.00 to assist both facilities in their great work in Cavan Town supporting local communities. In my own area of East Cavan, I'm delighted to see Cavan Loughanleagh and Muff Heritage Trust get €2,5000 to continue on their fantastic work at this local amenity in our area that so many people enjoy."

Deputy Brendan Smith also welcomed today's funding announcement; "We are very fortunate to have such a vibrant and progressive community spirit throughout Cavan and Monaghan and the facilities that have been developed over the years play an important role in the everyday lives of local residents.

"I wish all the groups continued success with their work and I will be glad to continue to support their efforts in providing enhanced and indeed additional facilities and amenities for the benefit of our local communities."
