Issues around drug use and other criminal related offices was recently discussed at a meeting between members of the Monaghan Municipal District and An Garda Síochána.
Garda Superintendent Pat O'Connell along with other senior members of Cavan/Monaghan Gardai attended the meeting.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan MD, Cllr Sean Conlon described the meeting as "constructive" and praised the imminent activation of Monaghan Town's CCTV system.
Cllr Conlon believes the move "should have been done years ago" after a meeting was first held in relation to the new CCTV scheme back in 2017.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon said the delay goes "beyond the control of local Gardai" and "unfortunately" was in the hands of the Department of Justice who provided "delay after delay."
Despite this, Cllr Conlon believes the new CCTV system will be a "fantastic ally" when it comes to helping combating drug related offences in Monaghan Town:
