It was agreed to provide an 'open plan' status to a parcel of land behind the Gaelscoil in Cavan town following a meeting of the local authority on the County Development Plan earlier this week.
Cllr John Paul Feeley said the land was needed to protect the future development of the Gaelscoil.
He added it was a growing entity and was the only non-denominational school in the county.
