A new service that will alert people when their passport is about to expire will be a welcome improvement.
That's according to Cllr Pauric Clerkin who says from next year anyone applying for a first-time passport or renewing an existing passport will be able to opt in to receive electronic communications from the Passport Service, including reminders before their passport expires.
Cllr Clerkin welcomed confirmation of the new service, adding that anyone who has ever found themselves checking passport expiry dates just before a family holiday will know how stressful it can be if a passport is out of date or close to expiring.
He siad a simple reminder by text message or email will help prevent unnecessary stress, reduce last-minute passport applications and make travelling that bit easier for families.
The Co Monaghan Fine Gael councillor says the improvement makes a lot of sense.
