As CMETB continues with its plan to open Monaghan's new special needs school in a building which some parents fear is unsuitable for their children, a local councillor says all Monaghan children should receive equal education. CMETB is to honour the promise made by the Government before the general election to open an interim special needs school for the next academic year in September by re-opening the old tech building in Castleblayney for the purpose.
However, the new school, which, is supposed to cater for all special needs children in the county aged between 4 and 18 will only have 18 places available. There could be as many as 60 children still on a waiting list for their education in County Monaghan this coming year. Some parents have also expressed their concerns the school is unsuitable because it is on a hill on a busy road, with little space for buses and even for children with autism to take necessary breaks.
