Almost 30,000 firearm certs issued locally since 2020

There has been almost 30 thousand firearms certificates issued by Garda Division across the region between 2020 and 2025.

During the same period, there was 397,802 certificates issued nationally.

The figures were released by the Minister for Justice, in response to a parliamentary question.

Across Monaghan, Cavan, and Louth, there was 2,567 certificates issued in 2020. This increased to 3,746 in 2021.

Meanwhile, in 2022, there was 9,533 certificates issued by Gardaí, which dropped to 2,552 in 2023.

In 2024, there was 3,369 certificates issued in the region, and 8,111 to date in 2025.
