The Court of Appeal has dismissed all challenges to the convictions handed down to three men who kidnapped and tortured Kevin Lunney in September 2019.
The director of Quinn Industrial Holdings, which has since been rebranded, was abducted by the gang as he made his way home from work.
After his abduction, Kevin Lunney was taken to what he believed to be a horse box in a yard in Co Cavan where he was savagely beaten and doused in bleach.
He was told it was because of Quinn Industrial Holdings, and repeatedly told to resign. Alan Harte, Alan O’Brien, and Darren Redmond – all with addresses in the Dublin 3 area - were convicted and jailed for 30, 25 and 18 years respectively.
The evidence against them was circumstantial and they took issue with the reasoning behind the decision to find them all guilty. However, the Court of Appeal has decided that the trial court engaged in a detailed analysis of the evidence, and made findings which were open to it to make.
With all appeals against conviction dismissed, the men now plan to challenge the sentences handed down.
