Almost 120,000 inpatient bed days were used by patients from Cavan and Monaghan last year.
A bed day represents a situation where a patient is confined to a bed and must stay overnight in hospital.
The data released by the CSO shows a total of 117,228 bed days were used by Cavan and Monaghan patients. 66,474 of these were Cavan patients, while 50,774 were patients from Monaghan. The overall figure is an increase on the 2023 figure, where 112,192 bed days were spent in hospital. The data also shows the average length of a stay in hospital is 4.61 days in Cavan. While in Monaghan, the average length of a patients stay in hospital was 5.29 days.
Both counties are below the national average of stay length, which stands at 5.92 days.
