Average speed cameras on the N2 rolled out within months

The cameras measure a cars speed between two points and calculates the average.

Average speed cameras will change driver behaviour and save lives according to the Justice Minister.

Helen McEntee's comments come as average speed cameras went live on the N3 in Cavan last Friday.

She says the N2 will soon have the speed camera technology also in the very near future. Vehicles detected driving in excess of the 100km/h posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution.

The cameras measure a cars speed between two points and calculates the average, with those found to be speeding automatically issued 3 penalty points and a €160 fine. Minister McEntee said we know these cameras work and are very much needed to reduce collisions and road deaths.
