An award-winning local artist is bringing the woolly mammoth back to life in Co Cavan.
Belturbet Community Development Association was recently granted permission to build a life-sized replica of the extinct species in the town.
The remains of a woolly mammoth were found on Turbet Island in 1715, dating back thousands of years to the Ice Age.

Monaghan-based artist Marc Kelly has been commissioned to create the life-sized sculpture, which will be based at the Railway Station Site in Straheglin, Belturbet.
The sculpture will measure 10 by 14 feet, and be placed on a base which will blend into the surrounding ground.
There will also be a "gravel viewing area" with two benches to the front of the woolly mammoth.
