The new Bailieboro Garda Station is set to be operational in the coming weeks.
The confirmation came this afternoon from Minister Niamh Smyth on the Wider View programme. Works are nearing completion on the €20M plus state of the art development in the centre of the town.
Minister Smyth says while there has been delays to the project it's great to see the building looking so well and almost ready to welcome the local force of Gardai to their new home. Meanwhile, a local councillor believes political pressure is needed to get the new Bailieboro Garda Station opened and operational.
Cllr Shane P O'Reilly says there has been false dawns since 2007 in relation to this planned station and in recent days he says clarity is needed surrounding the opening of the much needed premises.
The local councillor says Gardai are currently working in third world facilities in the old Garda station, adding the building is falling around them.
Minister Niamh Smyth says the new station will be operational very soon.
