A ballot of staff at Tara Mines is now underway. They'll be voting today and tomorrow on proposals from the Workplace Relations Commission on the mines temporary closure.
The plans see more staff retained during the 'care and maintenance' phase, additional weekly payments for the hundreds of staff facing indefinite lay off, and guarantees they'll be given the same terms and conditions when they are re-employed.
Unions have recommended staff to accept the proposals.
