The National Bikers’ Memorial project has hit an “insurmountable obstacle” according to the Bikers’ Memorial Committee.
Last month (February 2026), Monaghan County Council confirmed that following a presentation on the public consultation and survey for the proposed memorial in Clones, elected members decided not to proceed with Páirc Phobail Séamus Mac Cába as a location.
In a statement, the Bikers’ Memorial Committee said that the project is over.
In today’s statement, the Committee thanked everyone who supported the project over the past four years.
They plan to return all donations made to the National Bikers’ Memorial project.
The group explained that donations were made in a variety of ways, and that a record exists of each one.
They asked for patience as they worked through returning the donations that they received.
The Bikers’ Memorial Committee said that it will concentrate on making the 23rd Annual National Bikers’ Memorial the most positive it can be.
This year’s memorial will take place in Clones on Friday, 16th of May.
The committee said that after the memorial, the job of returning donations “will begin in earnest”.
They added that creating a national memorial for our departed family members and friends was, and is, a good one.
They hope that in the future, another community and committee will succeed in bringing it to fruition.
