Castleblayney Hurling Club has been chosen winners of the Monaghan County award in this year's Texaco Support for Sport initiative.
€5,000 has been presented to the club to fund the development of facilities to support its growth and activities.
Founded in 1906, Castleblayney Hurling Club is regarded as the most successful hurling club in Monaghan, having won the Monaghan Senior Hurling Championship 34 times and the Ulster Junior Club Hurling Championship four times.
Culturally, the Club has participated successfully at the GAA's Scór, winning county titles and hosting many drama and musical performances over the years.
Now in its fifth year, the Texaco Support for Sport initiative - organised by Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, the company that markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand - sees a fund of EUR130,000 set aside annually for allocation in equal amounts of EUR5,000 to successful applicants chosen on a county-by-county basis.
Previous Monaghan winners were Ballybay Pearse Bros. GAA Club (2021), Castleblaney's Latton O'Rahilly GAA Club (2022), Carrickmacross Emmets GAA Club (2023) and Clones Town Football Club (2024).
