A Co Monaghan woman who has Cystic Fibrosis is calling on people's support on 65 Roses Day which will take place tomorrow. Volunteers across the region will be selling purple roses to support CFI, in Dunnes Stores Monaghan and also the Monaghan Shopping Centre on Dawson Street. Meanwhile in Co Cavan, volunteers will be stationed at the Dunnes Stores on Church Street and the Dunnes Stores on Main Street in Cavan Town.
Due to recent advancements in treatment and care, more than 1,400 people are now living with CF and the number is increasing. Despite this, significant challenges still exist from accessing medication to obtaining financial products such as insurance. Cathy Coleman from Castleblayney was diagnosed with CF only a few hours after birth.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cathy highlighted the importance of research when it comes to advancements in medication. Cathy says the much-needed funds raised on 65 Roses Day will help provide supports to services such as financial assistance and grants, a listening service, and advocacy efforts to empower and support people living with CF and their families:
