A Book of Condolence has opened at Cavan Courthouse to remember Private Sean Rooney. The book was opened yesterday as a mark of respect to the Irish soldier from Dundalk who died in an attack in the Lebanon last week.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan county Council, Cllr John Paul Feely, was the first to sign on behalf of the people of Cavan. The tri colour will fly at half mast at Council Headquarters until Thursday when Private Rooney will be laid to rest with full military honours in Donegal following Funeral Mass in his native Dundalk.
Meanwhile, Trooper Shane Kearney from Cork, suffered serious head injuries when the convoy he and Private Rooney were travelling in came under attack. He was returned to Ireland this afternoon by Air Ambulance and is receiving medical treatment at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Three separate investigations are now being conducted into the incident.
