Alison McCabe has been a mastectomy fitter for over 20 years and is fully trained in looking after ladies after breast cancer by restoring their shape and confidence. Alison offers her free service Breastcare by Alison which is approved by the HSE for all ladies and men who have been impacted by breast cancer across counties such as Cavan and Monaghan.
Great concern emerged last year after the HSE revealed that it would be cutting the allowance for the service. However, due to much needed intervention from the previous government, allowances were changed right across the country which meant that no matter what region or county an individual is from, all allowances are now equal whether it's on a medical card or private.
Alison highlighted the importance of "checking your breasts" adding that the age of her youngest ever client was 19 while her eldest client was 97. Speaking to Northern Sound, Alison said cancer is something that can impact anyone at any age, however it's important for individuals to know that there's life after cancer;
