Earlier this week, the European Commission proposed a significant cut to the EU’s flagship farming support scheme, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), in its draft long-term budget for 2028-2034.
The IFA has described the announcement as a hammer blow with farmers receiving a pension set to lose their right to funding altogether.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Senator O'Reilly says the budget must keep pace with inflation.
Having achieved that, he believes it should be up to the farming organisations of Ireland, the Minister and social partners to sit down and distribute the envelope.
