Bus Éireann has been challenged to "step up to the mark" and address the "disgusting" toilet facilities in Monaghan Bus Station.
At today's Monaghan County Council meeting, David Maxwell said he was contacted about a group of American tourists who used the bus station over the weekend.
He said he was sent photos in which "excrement was on the doors and on the toilet".
The American tourists said they contacted a staff member about this, but were told by the member of staff that this was not their job.
David Maxwell added that the tourists labelled the bus station a "disgusting place".
Councillor Maxwell noted that the bus is the only way to get to Monaghan Town via public transport, and expressed frustration that "investment is made in tourism and then this happens".
