A Cavan Cllr has called for greater flood relief to be put in place in areas across Co. Cavan.
At a Cavan County Council meeting last week, Cllr. Aine Smith raised a motion about flood relief in response to flooding in rural areas.
The Fine Fáil Cllr has written to the Office of Public Works calling for more funding to go towards flood reliefs in Co. Cavan.
According to the Councillor, there has been continuous flooding in the Derrymony area, near Bawnboy, beside Brackey Lake.
Heavy rain in recent storms has left local roads flooded, to the extent that residents are unable to travel to work.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Smith added that storms will become more frequent in the future.
She said: "It's going to be more frequent as well ,these kind of things happening, and that's why I'm calling on the OPW to give more funding to local authorities.
"When we're dealing with situations that arise like this, in Derrymony and Bawnboy, that we have the funding ready to go.
"And also that we have the funding ready to go for drainage, because it can't be done all year round, because of spawning season. That needs to be done in good time, so we don't have situations where the lakes are getting higher from rivers running into them that aren't being cleaned in a timely manner," Cllr. Smith added.
