A Cootehill man has raised concerns about the planned construction of a biogas plant in the area.
James Manley, Country manager for CycleO in Ireland told Northern Sound this week that a planning
application for a plant will be submitted "imminently".
However, Trevor Whyte, from the Cootehill Biogas Concern Group has expressed conceren about the project.
Mr. Whyte believes that "the town isn't aware of what is coming" with the plant.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said expressed concerns abour safety, odour, and traffic associated with the plant.
In December last year (2025), CycleO held an online meeting on Microsoft Teams with residents in the Cootehill area.
However, Mr. Whyte has called on the company to meet with the people of Cootehill face-to-face.
Mr. Whyte said: "An awful lot of people in the housing estates right beside this plant are elderly people. They don't know what Teams is. They don't even have a laptop, or access to it.
"The right thing to do, is to hold a public meeting with the people of Cootehill, and ell them exactly what they are doing, and let them answer the questions in a civil manner.
"They won't do this. Because, they don't like asking, they like to control what is going on," Mr. Whyte claimed.
James Manley, Country manager for CycleO in Ireland has previously told Northern Sound about the safety precautions that will be in place at the site.
He said: "To be fair its one of the most monitored sectors out there. We have full monitoring systems on the site, 24 hour monitoring of the site.
"So basically, leak detection, odour abatement, that is all monitored on a constant basis on the plant," Mr. Manley added.
