Calls made for pedestrian crossing in Ballyjamesduff

Road safety concerns were very much to the fore of this week's Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting that took place in Cross Hall.

Fine Gael Councillor Trevor Smith brought up some safety issues on local roads that were a concern to him and local residents.

Councillor Trevor Smith says there is a desperate need for a pedestrian crossing on the Oldcastle Road out of Ballyjamesduff.

He outlined how four housing estates, a soccer pitch and Liffey Meats are all located on the road used by pedestrians including children and he said a crossing would also act as a 'speed deterrent' for motorists.

In response, the senior executive engineer stated at the meeting that the crossing was on the radar of the Active Travel Scheme and would be delivered by June 2024.

Councillor Smith said it's an issue that needs to be addressed with some urgency.
