Co Monaghan councillor Sean Conlon is calling on the Minister for Enterprise, Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and Enterprise Ireland to find a suitable replacement for the now empty site that once housed the institution that was Monaghan Co-op.
He raised the issue at a recent meeting of the Monaghan MD.
Cllr Conlon believes the area needs a suitable agri-food business to fill this void and provide employment in the North Monaghan area.
The local representative shared his concerns stating that the site has sat idle for months without any response to a parliamentary question put forward by Deputy Cathy Bennet.
According to Cllr Conlon, his Sinn Fein colleague asked Enterprise Minister Peter Burke back in April to play a role in seeking out a replacement due to the loss of a considerable mount of jobs.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conlon believes that the local site has "so much" to offer.
