A Carrickmacross driving instructor has highlighted the importance of road safety.
Claire McEneaney from Claire's School of Motoring is an RSA approved driving instructor based in Carrickmacross and Dundalk.
Claire warned that in her opinion, roads have become "so dangerous" adding that 2025 was a heart-breaking year on Irish roads where 185 lives were lost, the highest since 2014.
The main cause road deaths in Ireland is speeding, driving under the influence of drink/drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and distractions such as a mobile phone.
Five lives in total were lost in Monaghan last year, while two fatalities occurred in Cavan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Claire says a huge proportion of lives be saved.
Claire says these are human beings and not statistics, therefore we need to bring it back to that and do what we can to keep each other safe.
She believes enhancing awareness and safety practices on our roads can help "prevent families from grieving and communities from mourning."
The local driving instructor has also developed workshops with an aim of enhancing awareness awareness and safety practices on our roads.
Claire told Northern Sound: "I've developed road safety workshops to bring to a wider community. One is for transition year fifth and sixth year students who we do an interactive workshops with.
"We talk about the dangers of driving under influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, and distractions. They share their stories with me and we also use beer goggles and drug goggles and they get to see the effects of it and how their abilities are reduced by wearing them, even doing simple tasks like throwing a ball or walking in a straight line and I think that really brings it home to them.
"I also offer road safety workshops to businesses and local community groups, with the aim of enhancing awareness and safety practices on our roads. People don't realise that you're 40% more likely to be involved in a collision if you’re someone who drives are part of your job.
"Therefore introducing road safety workshops will have a positive impact on employees, their families, the wider community and on the business if people are trained and educated on road safety that will mean less collisions."
