Carrickmacross Councillor warns cashless AIB outlets could be at risk of closure

Cllr Colm Carthy has called on AIB to re-consider, saying this decision treats customers "with contempt".

A Carrickmacross Councillor has warned that cashless AIB outlets could be at risk of closure in the coming years.

The Carrickmacross and Castleblayney branches will be among 70 to turn cashless, taking effect from the 21st of October.

Sinn Féin Councillor Colm Carthy says he will be putting forward an emergency motion at the upcoming Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD meeting calling on AIB to re-consider this decision, which he says treats customers "with contempt".

AIB customers will be able to conduct their cash banking from any post office around the country, and cashless outlets will instead focus on mortgage, loan and saving advice for customers.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Carthy says reduced footfall will be used as an "excuse" to close the branches:
