Cavan is one of the counties using controversial Chinese surveillance cameras in public places.
Hikvision is used by councils, hospitals and universities throughout Ireland, despite being banned in many other countries including Australia and the UK.
Security experts are warning about the potential for foreign access to critical infrastructure.
Thousands of its CCTV cameras record footage in swimming pools, courthouses and even the brand new Civil Defence HQ in Cavan.
Patricia Devlin from 'The Journal Investigates' says there's been no action taken by Government despite multiple warnings from experts.
Speaking to Northern Sound Patricia explains this situation in Cavan, and the issue with the lack of clarification.
"Yes, so we asked Cavan County Council about its use of these cameras, and they have a total of 135 installed across council buildings, county-wide, and that includes Virginia Courthouse, the County Museum, and the Main Recycling Centre. Also, the brand new Civil Defence, it has a total of 15 of these cameras installed. So, you know, again, Cavan County Council, they said they have received no advice in terms of to use or not to use these cameras, so it shows the vacuum that is there. And, you know, the issues that are being faced by councils who just don't know whether they should be using these cameras or not."
