The cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council has defended the St Patrick's Day trips being made by councillors and politicians.
Delegates from Cavan County Council will be travelling to New York for this year's celebrations and will meet with the Cavan Association there.
Whilst Monaghan County Council will travel to Nashville to promote Monaghan as a destination for Irish businesses, particularly artists.
Trips to the US for St Patrick's Day are being criticised this year due to heightened tensions between the EU and the US
But Councillor TP O'Reilly says the trips are especially important to the Irish diaspora in the US.
