The funeral Mass for Pope Benedict XVI, will be held tomorrow at St. Peter’s Square.

On behalf of Cavan County Council, Cathaoirleach John Paul Feeley has offered his condolences to those mourning the recent death of Pope Benedict XVI.

The former head of the Catholic Church passed away on December 31st.

Although the 95-year-old never visited Ireland during his time as Pope, Cllr John Paul Feeley says he "watched with interest" following his visit to the UK.

According to Cllr Feeley, the visit was "historic on many fronts", with particular reference to the Canonisation of John Henry Newman who was founder of the Catholic University, Dublin, the precursor to UCD.

Cllr John Paul Feeley added that Pope Benedict XVI will be "mourned by all people of sincere faith but especially those who share his Catholic faith."

The late Benedict XVI will have a funeral similar to that of a reigning pope, including a three-coffin burial, which will take place tomorrow.
