A local councillor has hit out at the Minister for Transport over his response to a motion highlighted over the condition that roads alongside the N3 are in.
Cllr Shane P O'Reilly highlighted in recent months that he has never seen the roads in the area as bad during his 21 years in politics.
He said the roads alongside the N3 in the wider Virginia area are in a scandalous condition due to high volumes of traffic, with motorists using the rural network as a 'rat race'.
The independent councillor said motorists travelling in both directions are using the rural roads as a way to escape the 'bottleneck' that is Virginia.
Cllr O'Reilly said the response from Minister Darragh O'Brien was degrading, pathetic and insulting. He said the letter that was written to the municipal district of Ballyjamesduff was the worst piece of writing he has ever seen sent back to the local authority.
Specific funding was requested to repair the damage that has been caused to date by the level of traffic using the adjacent roads to ten N3 in the area.
The Cavan councillor says it's become extremely dangerous and this funding is needed and this has been falling on deaf ears for far too long.
An irate, Cllr O'Reilly said he won't stop highlighting this very important issue in the area until he sees results.
