A Cavan Councillor has raised a motion at the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council to call on the local authority to introduce an Ethical Procurement Policy.
This initiative comes at a time when corporations are profiting from protracted armed conflict and systematic violations of human rights.
Sinn Féin's introduction of 'Ethical Procurement Policy' motions will propose that no council awards any contracts or utilises services provided by companies involved in breaching human rights and international law.
Cllr Stiofan Conaty "deplores" that any business should profit from protracted armed conflict and systematic violations of human rights, or that local councils would be in any way potentially, directly, or indirectly, complicit with such profiteering.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he hopes this policy will encourage companies to meet their human rights obligations.
