A Co. Cavan farmer is urging poultry farmers to remain vigilant following reports of suspected avian influenza at a premises in Co. Tyrone.
IFA Poultry Chair, Brendan Soden called for producers to remain alert and ensure the highest standards of biosecurity are in place across all poultry, backyard and game bird operations.
He said that strict farm biosecurity is the most effective defence against the spread of avian influenza, and it is vital that all flock owners review their measures.
Mr. Soden also reminded producers to closely monitor their birds and report any unusual illness or increased mortality to veterinary authorities without delay.
Members of the public are asked to follow official guidance: Do not touch or approach sick or dead wild birds and report findings to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) through the usual channels or your local Regional Veterinary Office.
