Cavan IFA Chair says lack of diversity support within organisation is "shameful"

The Chair of Cavan IFA says it's "shameful" how the organisation treats the diversity committee.

Elizabeth Ormiston was speaking today as Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue outlined what measures are being introduced to support women in farming.

This includes female-specific TAMS funding and women-only Knowledge Transfer groups.

Ormiston welcomed the announcement, but said there still needs to be a widespread cultural change.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, she said she believes gender played a part in her not getting a nomination to become regional chairperson.
