Local man cycles from Cavan to Wales for SOSAD

Conor is also climbing Mt Snowdon while in Wales.

Connor Kelly is cycling from Cavan to Snowdonia in Wales to climb Mt Snowdon and cycle back home to Cavan.

The round trip distance is 368km and it's all in aid of SOSAD.

Last night the Cavan native cycled to catch the ferry in Dublin and then from Hollyhead, the 32 year old will cycle to the foothills of Mt Snowdon to climb the 1085 meters to the summit of the mountain.

He will then cycle back home to Cavan Town and he hopes to return home at 2pm at the square on Main Street in Cavan town. It's all in aid of raising awareness surrounding mental health and addiction.

Conor says he used the SOSAD service and knows first-hand what the service has done for him. He said this is a way to give back to the local service. Speaking on the Wider View earlier, the local man says he felt compelled to do his bit to raise much needed funds for the local charity.

Conor outlined when he reached out to SOSAD, "Probably just after the first lockdown I started to see there was a problem, so I got help first, and I struggled for three or four years there, trying to get sober and trying to keep my head right up, a year here, a year there, but my mental health just kept tripping me up and all that.

"So up to maybe four or five months ago, I really started to work on myself, shared my story and stuff like that, and it really helped me then recover myself. "I used to look at month per month and year and year, and then finally, someone turned around to me one day and said, maybe just leave it in the day by day, you know, because something you know in the future could change the past, you know, like you just have to look into 24 hours of every day, you know, that sort of way.

"If you can go to bed happy and stuff like that, that's the most important thing, you know. I have a future map where I want to be and what I want to do, but I don't pressure too much."
