A man that was five times over the alcohol limit for driving has been put off the road for five years.
47-year-old Radoslaw Sola, with an address at Diamond House Apartments, Diamond House, Belturbet, Co Cavan appeared at a sitting of Monaghan District Court over the incident at Mullaghbrack, Smithborough, Monaghan that occurred on May 27, 2025.
Judge Raymond Finnegan said the man aged in his 40s "couldn't even see his windshield, never mind the road in front of him".
In outlining evidence, Sgt Lisa McEntee said the accused, when stopped on suspicion of drink driving, returned a reading of 111 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Under current road traffic laws, the legal limit for fully licenced drivers stands at 22 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
It was revealed in court that the accused had two previous convictions for drink driving also.
Judge Finnegan handed down a five month prison sentence, a term which was suspended for two years on the basis Mr Sola refrained from reoffending.
