A Cavan man has been taking part in a debate relating to use of the Irish tricolour as a symbol of protest.
Former Garda and whistleblower John Wilson was speaking on the Joe Finnegan show in response to an email from a listener upset after a number of tricolours "appeared out of nowhere" in Roscommon Town over the weekend.
Some of the concerns raised from the act include, it being weaponised against other people, and disregard of the rules against the flag being flown during the night.
However, John Wilson argued some people are using the flag because they feel under pressure and see it as a symbol of Irish identity.
He outlined his belief that people are desperate and use the flag as a symbol of survival, and that the Irish flag represents the small ethnic group that is the Irish people.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Mr. Wilson outlined his thoughts on the issue.
