Cavan/Monaghan a 'blackspot' for speech and language therapy

The figures reveal pockets of the country such as Cavan and Monaghan who are particularly struggling to deliver timely speech and language therapy.

Cavan and Monaghan has been identified as being a "blackspot" for speech and language therapy.

Almost 300 children are being forced to languish on waiting lists for more than two years.

The number of people aged under 18 are waiting more than a year for psychology treatment in December 2024 compared with October 2021.

In Cavan-Monaghan, 40 children were left waiting more than a year for psychology treatment in October 2021.

This figure increased substantially with 442 children left waiting more than a year for treatment in December 2024.

The data was released by the HSE in a parliamentary response to Marie Sherlock, Labour's health spokesperson.

The HSE said it acknowledged the challenges in meeting the demand for children's disability services and was acutely conscious of how this issue affected children and their families.
