Members of the Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan Cross Border Folk Orchestra recently performed in front of Taoiseach Micheál Martin and members of U2.
Government announced a new phase of it's philanthropic partnership for Music Generation aimed at promoting social inclusion and wellbeing for young people aged 13 and over.
€10 million has been pledged by U2 and The Ireland Funds, with a corresponding matched funding commitment from Government of €10 million, through the Department of Education and Youth.
The announcement was made at a gala event in Dublin where the Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan Cross Border Folk Orchestra performed in front of the gathering.
Music Generation, established in 2010 with first round funding from U2 and The Ireland Funds, already gives around 130,000 children and young people, or one in ten young people across Ireland, access to performance music education every year, spanning genres from rap to traditional.
Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan is managed by Cavan/Monaghan Music Education Partnership, led by Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board in partnership with Monaghan County Council and Cavan County Council.
Planning and consultation, including consultation with young people and the Local Music Education Partnerships led by Education and Training Boards, will begin later this year ahead of rollout in 2027.
The announcement coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of The Ireland Funds, which has raised more than $750 million since 1976 in support of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, community development and education across the island of Ireland.
