'The roads nationwide need investment.' That's the view of Cavan-Monaghan TD Pauline Tully, who raised the atrocious state of the rural road network in Cavan with the Tánaiste in the Dáil. The deputy pointed out that Cavan and Monaghan do not have a rail network and are dependent on the roads.
The Sinn Féin TD said that to maintain the roads, 80 km to 100 km of road should be repaired each year so that the network can be addressed every ten years. Despite this, she noted that local engineers do not receive sufficient funding to repair roads that are currently disintegrating in places and have gone beyond patching.
The TD stressed that an increase in funding is needed immediately to guarantee safe and stress-free journeys for local motorists.
