"All we want for our children is equal rights, to live the best lives possible, to get the services they require and the help they need."
Those are the words of Co Cavan mother Serena Dawson who has organised a number of peaceful protests in Cavan Town alongside other parents over the lack of disability services available.
Serena is calling for Ireland to introduce a statutory minimum waiting time for children with disabilities to access services, similar to what exists in other countries.
She also called out the "post code lottery" which she feels exists in Co Cavan compared to elsewhere, adding that children and families in Co Cavan deserve "equal opportunities."
Serena said the Disability Act must be looked at and parents like herself will continue to be the voice for their children until changes are made.
She says a new plan is needed because the current system is "not working" and "nobody is being held accountable."
Speaking to Northern Sound, Serena said it is "heart-breaking" to watch your children struggle every single day.
Serena has encouraged people to sign the 'no more waiting - call for urgent services for special needs children' petition by clicking here.
