Bob Gilbert has been a proud member of the Cavan Older People's Council for many years, having previously served as chairman.
Mr Gilbert is the Age Friendly Ambassador for Co Cavan and plays a vital role in making older people aware of what they're entitled to and says it's all about working with each other for each other.
With a new year now underway, the age friendly ambassador is encouraging people from right across Co Cavan to get involved.
Not only does the group provide social opportunities for people but more importantly Bob says the group is proactive about driving the change that you want to see.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Bob says one of the biggest challenges for age friendly ambassadors like himself is finding ways to combat loneliness.
While loneliness across Co Cavan is an issue, he says initiatives like the older people's council can help combat that, particularly for those who find it hard to put themselves out there.
He told Northern Sound: "We're starting at the moment a companions imitative, hoping to organise a way that where older people can link up with with people in other counties and areas whether that be online through Facebook, in person or over the phone. I think lowliness has always been an issue and will continue to be an issue, particularly for those who are reluctant to put themselves out there."
