Cavan Pétanque doubles team takes All-Ireland

A version of the more well-known French boules, pétanque involves throwing steel balls on a gravel piste.

Members of the Cavan Petanque Club have just won an All-Ireland title. The club based at Belturbet Golf Club is only operating since we emerged from lockdowns in the summer of 2022 but, its membership has been growing from strength to strength

Pétanque is "the biggest sport you've never heard of" which can be played by people aged four to 94, wheelchair users, and men and women can play or compete with each other. A version of the more well-known French boules, pétanque involves throwing steel balls on a gravel piste.

The two members of the local club who took home the All-Ireland title at the weekend actually travel to practice in Belturbet from north County Donegal and originally come from former French colony, Mauritius. President of the Cavan Pétanque Club, Billy Gleadell told Northern Sound, the significance of Naim and Ali Choolun's win for the area: "
