The IFA's poultry vice-chairman, Brendan Soden, has called for a housing order for poultry in Ireland.
It comes following a suspected case of avian influenza in Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, was confirmed by Northern Ireland's Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
In order to reduce the risk of the transmission of avian influenza, DAERA declared a Temporary Control Zone in the areas around the premises.
The Closure Zone A will be applied in an area within a radius of a minimum of three kilometres.
Meanwhile, Zone B applies to an area covering 10km.
Mr. Soden, a poultry farmer in Co. Cavan, attended a stakeholder meeting for the poultry industry this morning.
He told Northern Sound that he is hoping that the housing order will be introduced in the "next number of days".
He said: "We've called for a housing order. Biosecurity can do so much, but when you're letting birds outside, it breaks down the biosecurity.
"We've had two or three confirmed cases, so we believe action needs to be taken as soon as possible to strengthen biosecurity.
"(The IFA) are hoping in the next number of days the housing order would be introduced," he added.
