Leader of Fine Gael, Simon Harris, has nominated Cavan's Senator Joe O'Reilly to be the party's spokesperson on finance in the Seanad.
The appointment was made by the Tánaiste earlier this week.
Senator O'Reilly has previously been his party's spokesperson on Health, Foreign Affairs and Trade, Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
The role means he will handle the finance portfolio, representing Fine Gael's interests in Seanad Éireann.
He said, for him, the most interesting part of his new role will be sitting in the Finance Committee.
