Latest figures put the average class size in Ireland at 22.5.

A Cavan Senator says reducing the average number of pupils in a classroom would drastically improve the quality of education here.

Latest figures put the average class size in Ireland at 22.5.

This is above the EU average of 20 pupils per classroom.

Local Sinn Féin Senator, Pauline Tully, is also a former teacher.

Addressing the Seanad, Senator Tully says pupils, particularly those with additional needs, receive a better experience when class sizes are smaller:
