Cavan SPCA has given some advice for pet owners as temperatures continue to soar into the weekend.
Tina Boyle from the organisation said it's important to not walk your dog during the hot spells apart from early in the morning and when it's cooler in the evening time.
People are also being warned that it is extremely dangerous to leave a pet in an enclosed space like a car during temperatures like these.
Tina also warned that pets are highly susceptible to heatstroke and dehydration, and ensuring an adequate supply of water is vital.
It’s important for animals to have a shelter available to get away from the sun.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Tina explained the importance of animals being able to get out of the midday heat.
"Other things that there's some kind of shelter provided. Now for animals in open fields they will go to hedgerows so something like that if they have hedges in fields or shed shelters or something like that that's open that they can go in and out of for them livestock or horses them type of animals. For our ordinary cats and dogs and maybe other animals that they have access again to sheds or sheltered areas whether it be the house a shed a garage just a sheltered area or kennel in the garden that they can get out of the kind of the midday heat of the sun at least."
